Spring Cleaning Tips for Every Season

When we hear ‘Spring Cleaning’ I am sure we all think of the same things, such as dusting and wiping down the mini blinds, perhaps shampooing the carpet or opening the windows to air out the house maybe even handwashing the baseboards. Whatever ‘Spring Cleaning’ looks like to you, we all do it just a little differently. However, other than the obvious places we clean year after year have you ever thought to clean your yard, car, computer, or bedroom closets?

We have compiled a list of spring-cleaning tips that can be used year-round for often neglected areas in and around your home.

  • Freshen Up Your Closet

    – I personally live by the ‘One piece in, one piece out’ rule when it comes to my wardrobe, each time I bring a new piece in whether a new pair of pants or a nice button-down shirt, I pick at least one item to get rid of. However, I realize most folks don’t do this so if your closet is bursting at the seams, it’s time to freshen up your closet! Do this by going through each piece and ask yourself ‘When’s the last time I wore this? Will I wear it again soon? Does it still fit? Could someone else get more value from this piece than me?” Depending on your own answers, I’m willing to bet that slimming down your wardrobe will be easier than you think.

  • Get Rid of the Junk in your Trunk

    – One of the best feelings in the world is getting into a car that’s just been cleaned and smells fresh! Did you have every intention of cleaning out your car when the weather warmed up? I tend to give mine a good cleaning inside and out just before a big road trip, it helps a lot when you’re stuck in the car for hours at a time. A simple basic wash at your local car wash will do wonders for your peace of mind and you’ll still be able to check it off your to-do list. While you’re there give your wheels a good scrub and polish and finally, get rid of all the garbage on the inside! Straw wrappers, dirty napkins and tissues, cold fries from under your seat etc. You’ll feel like a million bucks when you’re through and your car will thank you for it!

  • The Bathroom Salon

    – Nearly every household has that one drawer and this time we don’t mean that ‘junk drawer’. We’re talking about the bathroom drawer that’s stuffed with haircare items and products. Perhaps you keep it all under your sink the curling irons, blow dryers, flat irons, hair sprays, curlers, etc. Looking your best doesn’t mean you need to have every hair product and accessory available. Go through it all and minimize your inventory. Give away what could be reused and get rid of what you don’t need.

  • Ditch the Draino

    – We’re all guilty of waiting until the sink or shower clogs up before ever cleaning the pipes properly. And, by that time, our only option left is to use heavy duty, toxic cleaners from the big box stores. It may look like everything is flowing simply fine but bacteria growth, food particles, hair, dirt and grease can easily and quickly accumulate. Do yourself and your plumbing a favor by using a simple concoction of vinegar and baking soda to clean and freshen up your drains. Wait a while then rinse with hot water.
